Brooklyn, N.Y – (KFGO/AP) France’s Joan Beringer went No. 17 to Minnesota, giving the Timberwolves the best shot-blocking prospect in the draft.
Beringer — who figures to learn plenty from countryman Rudy Gobert, if he remains with Minnesota — played pro ball in Slovenia this past season.
A quick scouting report from the AP’s Tim Reynolds indicates Beringer is an explosive and projectable but raw big man, with room and talent to grow on both ends of the floor:
- French rim-runner with defensive potential
- Projects well for pick-and-roll, transition and lob situations
- Had one of the combine’s biggest wingspans at better than 7-4
- Turns 19 in November.
The Timberwolves also hold the 31st pick, the first one in Round 2. That selection has yet to be made
