
(KNFL/KFGO) – It was the 2nd game of a 3 game series between the Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks, and the Sioux Falls Canaries, from The Birdcage, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota today. Fargo-Moorhead lost last night, but were looking to get off to a better start this afternoon.
In the top of the first, facing Canaries pitcher, Cade Torgerson, Dillon Thomas smashed a 2 run home run to start the scoring. A 2-0 lead would turn into a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the first, as Calvin Estrada got an RBI single off Redhawks starter, Tyler Jandron. In the top of the 2nd, Miguel Ojeda Jr. got a 2 run home run of his own, making it 4-1 Fargo-Moorhead. They would get another run in the top of the 3rd from Aiden Byrne on an RBI single, making it 5-1. In the bottom of the 3rd, Sioux Falls would cut the lead in half, on an RBI groundout by Josh Rehwaldt, and an RBI single, by Jordan Barth. It would be 5-3 Redhawks until the 5th inning, as Alec Olund got himself an RBI single, making it 6-3. But, the Sioux Falls Canaries were looking to respond in a big way in the bottom of the 5th, and they did.
Peter Zimmerman would club an RBI double, a run would score after an error, and then Joe Vos would slice a 2 run double. It would be a 4 run inning, and a 7-6 Sioux Falls lead in the 5th. The Canaries would get a dagger from Josh Rehwaldt, as he launched a solo home run in the bottom of the 8th. The Sioux Falls Canaries went to Christian Cosby to slam the door, and he did just that. He picked up the save, while striking out 2, and the Canaries would win 8-6, to secure the series victory.
The winning pitcher was Cade Torgerson of Sioux Falls. He pitched 5 and 1/3 innings, while giving up 8 hits, 6 runs that were all earned, 3 walks, while striking out 5. The losing pitcher was Tyler Jandron of Fargo-Moorhead. He went 6 and 2/3 innings, giving up 13 hits, 7 runs with 6 of them being earned, 1 walk, while striking out 3.
The series finale is tomorrow afternoon with a changed time. Due to extreme heat in Sioux Falls, the first pitch has been moved up to Noon. The pregame show will begin at 11:40 AM on AM 740 The FAN KNFL Fargo/107.3 FM.
