The Redhawks were taking on the Kansas City Monarchs in game 3 of their 4 game series tonight. Kansas City took last night’s game 7-4. Fargo Moorhead was looking for revenge. It would be a pitchers dual between Fargo Moorhead’s Greg Minier, and Kansas City’s Jackson Goddard.
The Monarchs would strike first thanks to a 3 run 2nd. With a runner 90 feet away, Greg Minier balked, leading to the first run to the game. After the balk, Josh Bissonettte would drill a long RBI single to left, scoring Blake Rutherford. Kansas City was looking for a 3rd run and they would get it from an infield single by Alvaro Gonzalez.
It would be 3-0 in favor of Kansas City until the bottom of the 5th. Former NDSU Bison, Peter Brookshaw, with Alexfri Planez on base, crushes a 2 run homer to make it a 1 run game.
Throughout the rest of the game, it was a pitchers dual. But the Redhawks had a chance to at least tie the game in the bottom of the 9th. Alexfri Planez was up to bat, with 2 base runners on, and he flew out to center to end the game. Both teams would only score in 1 inning. The Redhawks scored 2 in the 5th, and Kansas City would score their 3 in the 2nd.
Jackson Goddard would get the win, going 6 innings, giving up 4 hits, 2 earned runs, while striking out 7. Meanwhile, Greg Minier of Fargo Moorhead was given the loss, as he went 7 strong innings, gave up 8 hits, 3 earned runs, 2 walks, while striking out 6.
The Monarchs look for the series win tomorrow evening, while the Redhawks look to end the series in a 2-2 tie, before heading to Lincoln for a 3 game weekend series.
The pregame show for the series finale is at 6:40 tomorrow evening on AM 740 The Fan KNFL Fargo/107.3 FM.
