SAINT PAUL, Minn. (UND Athletics)– North Dakota had multiple honorees once again at the annual NCHC Awards Banquet, as freshman forward Sacha Boisvert was named the league’s top rookie while veteran radio broadcaster Tim Hennessy was selected as the year’s media excellence winner on Thursday night.
Boisvert took home NCHC Rookie of the Year honors after a standout freshman campaign with NoDak, currently pacing the team in both goals (16) and points (30) heading into Friday’s NCHC Frozen Faceoff Semifinal showdown with Western Michigan. The Trois-Rivières, Québec, native ranks third nationally among all freshman in goals while his 30 points sit tied for 10th nationally among rookies.
He was dominant against league opponents, leading all NCHC rookies with 11 goals and ranked fourth with 17 points. He was named NCHC Rookie of the Month in both November and December while garnering the league’s top rookie of the week award four times.
Boisvert is the fourth NoDak player to win the NCHC’s top rookie award, joining Jackson Blake (2022-23), Shane Pinto (2019-20) and Brock Boeser (2015-16) while also tying Denver for the most in league history. He is also trying to become the first freshman at UND to lead the team in both goals and points since Boeser did so on the way to the program’s eighth national championship in 2015-16.
Hennessy was also honored with the NCHC Media Excellence Award, as voted on by the league’s staff and the nine sports information directors (SIDs). Hennessy has called North Dakota hockey games for 45 seasons and has been on the mic for six of the program’s eight national titles.
Additionally, Hennessy has had a front-row seat to 16 conference titles, 16 NCAA Frozen Fours, 10 conference tournament crowns and 29 NCAA Tournament appearances. He is one of the two longest-tenured broadcasters in college hockey and has covered the entire current UND coaching staff as both coaches and student-athletes.
North Dakota will battle Western Michigan in the semifinal round of the NCHC Frozen Faceoff on Friday at 7:37 p.m. from the Xcel Energy Center.
