COON RAPIDS, Minn. (KFGO/WCCO) – A Coon Rapids dental office has been ordered to pay a former employee nearly $100,000 after firing her over her pregnancy.
The Minnesota Department of Human Rights launched an investigation finding that in December of 2020, Christina Vescio-Holland of PL Dental was fired for “performance shortcomings” shortly after disclosing her pregnancy to her office manager.
Investigators later found that PL Dental fired her on the basis of her pregnancy alone, and that management assured Vescio-Holland that she would be rehired once she was ready to come back to work.
This violated Pregnancy discrimination laws in the state.
The dental office is now required to pay Vescio-Holland $97,500, which is approximately equivalent to three years of wages.
