WEST FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – The West Fargo City Commission has decided to delay a plan for a roundabout at 52nd Avenue and 9th Street West near Legacy Elementary School after protests from nearby residents.
Some property owners say the roundabout is not currently needed, and objected to the special assessments they would have to pay for it.
Commissioner Mandy George said she is opposed to any special assessments.
“People don’t want this,” George said. “I’ve read through all the emails. It’s not just about the special assessments. That’s part of it but it’s about what they actually believe is best for their neighborhood, best for their children. The people don’t want this. We never get this type of public feedback.”
Homeowner Faith Carr was among those who made comment at the commission meeting Monday.
“We’ve only been in our home three years and in that time our assessments have increased 13%. If you consider the cost of living increases on top of the regular real estate taxes that are paid, that’s excessive. We’re upside-down. A pause is something that I agree should be considered,” Carr said.
Commissioners voted unanimously to pause the plans for the roundabout, install stop signs, and look at other ways to fund the project as future development continues.
