ST. PAUL, Minn. – The Minnesota Department of Corrections is developing a comprehensive water management plan at the state’s prison facilities.
Further testing was ordered on well water from the Stillwater prison after a group of incarcerated men protested what they called a “lack of clean water.”
Officials said recent water samples from the Lino Lakes prison had lead content that exceeded EPA action levels. There have been no reports of water-related illnesses at Stillwater or Lino Lakes.
The plan calls for the development of a comprehensive water testing protocol to be done at all DOC facilities within 45 days.”
The first shipment of bottled water is expected to arrive Wednesday evening at the Lino Lakes prison.
