WEST FARGO (KFGO) – An apartment building in West Fargo was briefly evacuated after firefighters were called Wednesday morning.
Crews responded to the 800 block of 36th Avenue E. shortly after 1 a.m. where they found burned food and smoke inside the apartment.
Chief Dan Fuller said as firefighters vented the apartment unit, smoke got into the hallway and set off all the building’s fire alarms.
Crews worked for about an hour after putting the cooking fire out to make sure the building was fully ventilated.
Fuller said the number one cause of building fires in the United States is cooking-related.
“We’ve done a pretty good job in West Fargo of prevention and public education to try to keep cooking fires down,” Fuller said.
Fuller said this is their third call this year for cooking fires. He said they’ve had over 20 in a year.
There were no injuries as a result of the fire, but there was some smoke damage to the building.
A damage estimate was not available.
