ST. PAUL, Minn. – Members of a healthcare workers union with members in Minnesota and other states are pushing for their first union contract since forming a year ago.
They want a deal with Planned Parenthood North-Central States.
“PPNCS will not be able to provide the high-quality care that our patients deserve without a fair contract for its workers,” employee Shay Gingras said.
The union also asked the organization to drop what it calls “extreme and unjustified” disciplines.
Patient care RN Nicole Anschutz said that includes retaliation for whistleblowing, intimidation, and final notices.
“Every missed time punch or manual time entry was a cause of anxiety, and reaching out to our manager for reassurance she would not be fired after she had received the same extreme ‘final notice discipline’ as all the other bargaining team members,” Anschutz said.
The union said it has formally rescinded its support for Planned Parenthood North-Central President and CEO, Ruth Richardson, a Democratic state representative for several Twin Cities suburbs.
