(NDSU Athletics) AUSTIN, Texas – The North Dakota State University men’s track & field team was represented by four athletes at the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday, with all four earning top-20 finishes.
Sixth-year senior Benji Phillips was the highest-finishing Bison, taking 16th place in the javelin with a throw of 227-3 (69.26m) to earn second team All-America honors. The Glasgow, Mont., native ended his Bison career at No. 2 in NDSU history for the javelin.
Junior Matt Kraft placed 17th in the javelin, throwing 225-9 (68.81m) for honorable mention All-American status. The Summit League champion finished the season at No. 4 all-time in the javelin at NDSU.
NDSU senior Jacob Rodin finished 17th in the 800m for honorable mention All-America, running 1:49.79. Rodin is the NDSU school record holder in the indoor and outdoor 800m, indoor 600m, and outdoor 4x400m relay. Indoors, he ranks second in school history for the 400m, 500m, and 4x400m relay.
Sixth-year senior Trevor Otterdahl placed 18th in the hammer with a throw of 220-11 (67.34m). He concluded his NDSU career at No. 2 on the school’s all-time list in the hammer, as well as owning two first-team All-America finishes in the indoor weight throw.
The top eight finishers in all events earn first team All-American honors, places 9 through 16 are named second team All-Americans, and all other national meet competitors receive honorable mention status.
Rodin became the first Bison man to compete at the NCAA Division I Championships in an individual running event. All previous national meet qualifiers at the Division I level had been field events, multi-events, or relays.
