FARGO (KFGO) – Memorial Day is a national holiday observed in the United States on the last Monday in May. It is a day when Americans honor the men and women who have died fighting in America’s wars.
Dave Rice is a Navy Veteran and the Host of the Veterans Hour on KFGO, he shares the difference between Memorial Day & Veterans Day
“On Memorial Day, We honor and memorialize our departed comrades and family members. It’s a solemn occasion. On Veterans Day, we celebrate and honor our Veterans who have served our country. We were proud to serve our country, and are now proud to serve our community,” said Rice.
Memorial Day traditions date back to May 30th, 1868, when flowers were placed on the graves of Union and Confederate soldiers at Arlington National Cemetery. It was called Decoration Day back then.
