HOPKINS, Minn – The group Howling for Wolves is disappointed Minnesota lawmakers did not include a provision banning wolf hunting in a state budget bill.
Founder Maureen Hackett said the gray wolf is a federally threatened species right now.
“We are concerned that once wolves lose federal protections that the Minnesota DNR will have a lot of pressure to hold a wolf hunt, based on prior experience and their three consecutive wolf hunts.”
The state had wolf seasons in 2012, 2013, and 2014.
The Minnesota House passed a ban on recreational wolf hunting this session, but it did not make the final version of the Environment, Climate and Energy bill.
