FARGO (KFGO) – The Cass County Sheriff’s Office wants the public to be aware of a scam involving someone posing as a Cass County sergeant.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, someone identifying themselves as Sgt. Matt Iverson is telling people they missed a court appearance and now had a citation for failing to appear in court. The scammer gives a callback number of 701-620-2548.
So far, the Sheriff’s Office is unaware of anyone falling for the scam, but wants the public to stay vigilant if they receive a call from a deputy in their office.
The Sheriff’s Office said if anyone from their office calls, and things do not seem to be adding up, they should end the call and call central dispatch at 701-451-7660 and request to speak with the deputy.
“Given the amount of scamming occurrences law enforcement is notified of, our office fully understands that we may be questioned on legitimacy,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “We prefer someone follow the verification process before falling victim to a scam.”
