GRAND FORKS N.D. (KFGO) – The name has been released Grand Forks man charged with failure to stop for a railroad crossing when his pickup truck hit an Amtrak train last Thursday morning.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol says the crash happened about a mile south of Grand Forks when the eastbound pickup, driven by 60-year-old David Contreras, struck the front side of an Amtrak Empire Builder train, the lead engine of the northbound train.
Traffic was delayed for a couple of hours Thursday morning. Contreras was transported by ambulance with minor injuries, and a 52-year-old passenger was not hurt. Neither man was wearing a seatbelt. An Amtrak spokesperson says there were no injuries to the crew or 184 passengers aboard the train.
