GRAND FORKS, N.D. (KFGO) – An Amtrak Empire Builder train was delayed for just over three hours Thursday morning near Grand Forks after it was hit by a pick-up.
According to the Highway Patrol, the crash happened at 7:20 a.m. when the eastbound pickup hit the lead engine of the northbound train about a mile south of town.
The 60-year-old driver of the pickup has been identified as David Contreras of Grand Forks. He suffered minor injuries and was taken from the scene by ambulance. Contreras was also cited for failure to stop at a railroad crossing. A 52-year-old passenger in the pick-up was not hurt.
Amtrak spokesman Marc Magliari said there were no injuries to the crew or 184 passengers who were on board the train at the time.
The North Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating.
