(KFGO/KNFL) The Fargo Force took Game 1 of their USHL Western Conference playoff series with a 3-2 win over Tri-City before a crowd of 3,254 at Scheels Arena.
Owen Mehlenbacher started the scoring on a power-play goal at 9:17 of the first period to give Fargo a 1-0 lead. The Force survived an early scare in the first period, as forward Mac Swanson cleared a loose puck in the crease to deny the Storm a scoring chance.
Fargo made it 2-0 when Verner Miettinen scored off a two-on-one on a feed from Girts Silkalns at 15:51 of the second period. It stayed that way until Tri-City’s Tanner Adams scored on the power play early in the third period to cut the Fargo lead to 2-1.
Boris Skalos upped the Fargo lead 3-1 on a rebound goal at 11:38 of the third period. Zam Plante set up the goal on a centering feed while down on the ice behind the net to Tanner Walos. Skalos banged home the rebounds off of Walos’s shot.
Tri-City’s Sebastian Tornqvist made it a one-goal game with a goal with 5:35 left to make it 3-2 Fargo. The Force killed off a penalty in the game’s final minute to close out the win.
