FARGO (KFGO) – City and county leaders provided an update on the area’s flood outlook Monday. The city of Fargo should not experience any significant problems if the current forecast holds, but city engineer Nathan Boerboom said the city is staying vigilant.
“It’s important to point out that the river is still actively rising. We still don’t know quite what the crest level will be, but the National Weather Service has indicated that it’s probably somewhere within that 32-35-foot range at this point, but we’ll know more in the next few days,” Boerboom said.
A small section of Elm Street is closed and the 12th Ave. bridge between Fargo and Moorhead will likely close on Wednesday.
One area of top concern is the early to middle part of next week in parts of rural Cass County, according to county engineer Jason Benson.
“At that point, we expect pretty significant overland flooding from north of West Fargo along the County Road 17/Sheyenne River corridor, all the way to Harwood, and then north of Harwood in some of the rural subdivisions along Cass County Highway 32 and Cass County 81,” Benson said.
City and county employees along with hundreds of volunteers met the goal of filling 200,000 sandbags at Sandbag Cass. The work wrapped up Friday night.
