(KFGO/KNFL) Cole Knuble and Owen Mehlenbacher each tallied a goal and an assist as the Fargo Force ended a five-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over Sioux City at the Tyson Events Center on Saturday night.
Knuble and Mehlenbacher each added a goal in the second period as Fargo took a 2-1 lead. It was Knuble’s fourth goal in the past six games, as he now has 29 on the season.
Verner Miettinen made it a 3-1 Fargo at 10:51 of the third period with his team-leading 10th power-play goal of the season, assisted by Knuble and Mac Swanson. Kyle Smolen’s empty-net goal in the final minute ended the scoring.
Anton Castro stopped 17 shots in goal for his first win since March 17th.
The start of the game was delayed one hour as both teams were slowed down by I-29 closures in South Dakota.
Fargo is on the road next weekend, as the Force travel to Des Moines on Friday and Waterloo on Saturday. The Force currently sit at 80 points, leading Waterloo by nine points at the top of the USHL’s Western Conference.
