DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (KFGO/KDLR) – Some Amtrak passengers will be spending Wednesday night at Spirit Lake Casino after the passenger train broke down near Devils Lake.
According to Marc Magliari, a spokesman for Amtrak, the westbound Empire Builder passenger train had a mechanical issue and came to a stop.
Magliari said after about a two hour delay, the train made it into the Devils Lake station. He said he is hopeful they can get passengers with a destination close to Devils Lake, like Rugby or Minot, to those places by vans or some other vehicle.
“The rest, largely are going to have an overnight stay in the hotel at the casino – at our expense, of course,” Magliari said.
Magliari said those longer distance passengers will be put on the train that comes through Thursday.
About 70 passengers were impacted by the breakdown.
