GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota freshman forward Jackson Blake has been added to the 2022-23 Hobey Baker Award nomination list, as announced by the award’s committee.
Blake is one of three players from the Fighting Hawks nominated for the nation’s top men’s collegiate player, joining forward Riese Gaber and defenseman Chris Jandric on the list.
The Eden Prairie, Minn., native has emerged as one of the top rookies and scorers in the nation, pacing the Fighting Hawks with 36 points in 31 games this season. Those 36 points are the most by a rookie player at UND since Brock Boeser hit 60 in the national championship season of 2015-16 and is on pace to become only the third freshman in the program since 1980 to lead the team in points.
The NCHC Rookie of the Month for January has been dynamic in league play, pacing all rookies in assists, points and points per game. He also sits second among all skaters in each of those categories and is on pace to potentially become only the third freshman in NCHC history to be named to the All-NCHC First Team.
On a national level, Blake is currently tied for 13th in the nation and sixth among rookies for points and has gotten on the scoresheet in 24 of the 31 games this season.
