WEST FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – The West Fargo Police Department is mourning the loss of K-9 officer ToSti, after he passed away unexpectedly due to an unforeseen medical emergency while off duty on Saturday.
ToSti was a 7-year-old Dutch Shepherd from Holland. He joined West Fargo P-D in November 2015 and was paired with handler Officer Ben Orr. The k-9 officer was deployed over 800 times in Minnesota and North Dakota for tasks including narcotic detection, suspect tracking, building searches, and article recovery. Besides area police and sheriff’s departments he also supported Red River Valley SWAT, the DEA, BCI, and Highway Patrol.
Chief Denis Otterness called ToSti a loyal companion who dedicated his life to ensure the safety of his handler, fellow officers and the residents of West Fargo.
A procession will be held honoring ToSti tomorrow at 11am. It will start in front of West Fargo City Hall on 4th Ave E. and end at the police department.
