FARGO (KFGO) – Now that the City of Fargo and Roers Development have completed a final agreement to proceed with building seven promised townhomes, construction should start within days.
The townhomes are needed to act as buffers between nearby homes in the Roosevelt neighborhood and the new St. Paul’s Newman Center faith-based housing and the “View” apartments near the NDSU campus.
Roers Development failed to build the townhomes by last year’s Dec. 31 deadline.
“One of the reasons we didn’t move forward was because the cost of construction materials had escalated by several hundred percent,” Company President Jim Roers said. “Now, the wood-framing materials, which is the major component of this type of housing has come back in line to pre-COVID costs.”
Roers had sought an extension to build the townhomes, but that ended up in a major disagreement with the City of Fargo that finally ended with an agreement earlier this month.
Roers says he’s not concerned about the addition of penalty fees included in the new agreement. He says it’s “a non-issue” because the townhhome development will be done before the May 31 deadline.
