(KFGO/KNFL) Three-class high school basketball in North Dakota is being proposed again.
A focus group of 12 school administrators from around the state, representing both Class A and Class B schools, have been overseeing the proposal. The three classes would be created by enrollment cutoffs.
Class AA – Enrollment of 500+ students in grades 7-10 in the fall of 2022
Class A – Enrollment of 170–499 students in grades 7-10 in the fall of 2022
Class B – Enrollment below 170 students in grades 7-10 in the fall of 2022
In the proposal, Class AA would have 19 schools. Class A would consist of 37 schools, with the remaining school (approximately 67) in the new Class B.
The plan will be presented to school administration through August and September, with potential revisions being made in late September. A final draft will be made on October 1st, where schools may offer letters of support by the end of October. If 60% or more of member schools provide a letter of support, the plan will be proposed to the North Dakota State High School Activities Association in November.
