MINNEAPOLIS – Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey is selecting Cedric Alexander to be the city’s first-ever community safety commissioner.
If approved, Alexander will oversee the mayor’s newly proposed Office of Community Safety — which will consist of the fire and police departments, as well as 9-1-1, the Office of Emergency Management, and the Office of Violence Prevention.
Alexander started his career in 1977 as a deputy sheriff in Florida and has worked as a police officer, detective, deputy mayor, and police chief across the country.
He was also on President Barack Obama’s Task Force on 21st Century Policing. Alexander will be considered by the Minneapolis City Council on July 21st.
