FARGO (KFGO) -Hector International Airport is in the middle of a major terminal study with the airport authority favoring a project for expansion to the east. The airport would go from 5 to 9 gates.
“It would be our goal by this fall to maybe have the architect on board, then the board’s got to decide if they’re going to do a design-build type process or do it through a construction management at-risk process,” said Airport Authority Executive Director Shawn Dobberstein.
“It’s possible that the apron expansion could start next summer toward the east, concrete in place for the expansion, but I would say the terminal itself probably wouldn’t start until the spring of 2024,” Dobberstein told KFGO News.
The Transportation Security Administration would be included in final decisions on terminal expansion. Dobberstein said the estimated cost is $115 million. At this time, Dobberstein said a long-discussed airport parking ramp is not a top priority.
The last significant expansion of the airport was in 2008. The Federal Aviation Administration must approve any expansion plan.
