MOORHEAD (KFGO) – Moorhead is one of only three sites in Minnesota that have been designated a COVID-19 Test-to-Treat location, meaning the city’s community testing site in the former Thomas Edison Elementary School on S. 14th St. will offer Paxlovid prescriptions to eligible patients who test positive starting Monday.
The new program is a partnership between the State of Minnesota and the federal government, which is providing clinical personnel, funding, and Paxlovid for the three sites. The other two test-to-treat sites will be located in Brooklyn Park and Duluth.
Paxlovid treatment is recommended for early-stage treatment of mild to moderate COVID-19 and helps prevent hospitalization and death due to the disease in higher-risk patients.
Minnesotans who test positive for COVID via a rapid antigen test will be able to choose to be evaluated by an on-site clinician and given a no-cost prescription for the antiviral medication if it is deemed appropriate.
In addition to the new community test-to-treat sites, Minnesota families with children can now also pick up free at-home rapid tests at community testing sites.
