BISMARCK, ND. (KFGO/KCND) – The chairman of North Dakota’s Legislative Management Committee is stepping down.
In a statement, Republican State Senator Ray Holmberg said recent events and discussions have made it clear that the Legislative Management Committee doesn’t need to be a part of the discussions.
According to media reports, Holmberg had exchanged a number of texts with a person being held in the Grand Forks county jail for child pornography. Additionally, allegations have surfaced online from two years ago by a man who has accused Holmberg of sexually assaulting him ten years earlier.
Mark Friese, a criminal defense attorney with the Vogel Law Firm in Fargo, is representing Holmberg, and investigating those allegations.
The chairman of the North Dakota Dem-NPL and others had called on Holmberg to resign.
Holmberg was elected to his post representing District 17 in 1976. He previously announced he would be retiring at the end of this legislative assembly.
