NORTH ST. PAUL, Minn. – Police are investigating a strange story involving a capuchin monkey that was stolen in the Twin Cities.
The owner of the monkey originally said the monkey, named Coco Chanel, was taken from her vehicle when she went into a Cub Foods in Maplewood Tuesday night. The woman said she returned to her vehicle and discovered the monkey and its pink carrier were missing.
However, the owner’s story has changed and she now claims Coco Chanel was taken from an address in North St. Paul.
It is unclear why the owner’s story changed, but the monkey is still missing and the investigation – originally by Maplewood police – is now being headed up by North St. Paul police.
State law makes it illegal to own a “regulated animal” such as a monkey.
