The North Dakota Class B Boys’ Basketball State Tournament opened Thursday at the Minot State Dome. Kindred, Bishop Ryan, Four Winds/Minnewaukan, and Lamoure-L/M earned quarterfinal victories.
VIKINGS’ DUNKS, FAST BREAK OVERWHELM BULLDOGS
Kindred breezed past Bowman County Bulldogs 61-38 in the first game of the day. The Bulldogs kept it close midway through the second quarter, trailing just 17-14. However, after Bulldogs’ guard Bohden Duffield picked up his third foul, the Vikings pressed Bowman County’s backcourt into turnovers followed layups in transition. Jaiden Peraza threw down two back-to-back massive dunks that served as a turning point for the game. Kindred cruised in the second half en route to a 23 point victory.
The Vikings were led by Paul Olson, who had 19 points and three blocks. Peraza added 13 points and 3 rebounds. Kindred takes on Bishop Ryan in the first semifinal Friday at 6:30 pm.
The Bulldogs were led by Bohden Duffield, posting 18 points and 4 rebounds. His twin brother Bishop Duffield tallied 9 points. Bowman County slides into the consolation bracket where they will meet Shiloh Christian on Friday at 1:00 pm.

LIONS’ BENCH STEPS UP TO GROUND SKYHAWKS
In the most tightly contested game of the day, Bishop Ryan held off #3 Shiloh Christian 57-52 in Thursday’s second quarterfinal.
The game was never separated by more than six points, but the Lions knocked down some clutch free throws and received excellent bench contributions to carry them to the win, chief among them Ramsey Walz’s 13 points and four rebounds. Jett Lundeen provided terrific hustle and distributed several assists off the bench. Brady Feller netted 13 points and had seven rebounds.
Shiloh Christian was led by Jay Wanzek’s 22 points and 10 rebounds. Issac Emmel dropped in three triples for 10 points and secured four rebounds.

INDIANS USE RELENTLESS PRESSURE TO STOMP BLUE JAYS
Four Winds/Minnewaukan kept their perfect season intact after dismantling Stanley 68-28 in the third quarterfinal. The Indians forced the Blue Jays into an astounding 29 turnovers that they converted into 35 points. The Indians led by 26 at the break and coasted in the second half.
They were led by Dalen Leftbear’s stellar all-around effort of 16 points, six rebounds, and four steals. Deng Deng contributed with 15 points, three steals, and a thunderous one-handed jam in the fourth quarter. The Indians clash with Lamoure-L/M in the second semifinal Friday night.
Stanley’s offense was listless, shooting a woeful 30% from the field and failing to reach double-digit scoring for all four quarters. They were led by Josh Hetzel with nine points. The Blue Jays will square off with Grafton in the second consolation game Friday afternoon at 2:45 pm.

LOBOES SURVIVE FOURTH QUARTER ERUPTION FROM SPOILERS
Lamoure-Litchville/Marion’s 15 points second half cushion was nearly erased by Grafton, but the Loboes held off the Spoilers for a thrilling 52-51 victory.
Lamoure-L/M raced out to a 25-6 lead midway through the second quarter and were up 30-16 at halftime. Grafton steadily trimmed their deficit all the way to one, but late free throws from Corban Potts and Max Musland wound up being the difference for the Loboes.
Musland totaled 19 points and was 6-7 from the charity stripe. Corban Potts added eight points and seven rebounds. Colten Ness finished with 16 points and snatched five rebounds.
The Spoilers were led by Juan Villarreal, who had 17 points and two steals. Will Jiskra posted 15 points and 15 rebounds.
