EVELETH, MINN. – DNR officials suspect a moose that acted aggressively toward a pickup and damaged a truck near Eveleth last week had some sort of neurological disorder. The moose had been using a winter logging road and didn’t seem aware of workers in the area.
DNR spokesperson Penny Backman says it looked like the moose had tried to walk in-between a tall snowbank and the truck and its tipsy condition fell into the truck, knocked off its mirror, slid down the hood, knocked out the front headlight, and bent the hood.
Backman says the cow was showing symptoms of brain worm so a conservation officer put it down. It took collaboration and the loggers’ heavy equipment to load up the 775-pound moose. A necropsy is being done on the moose at the DNR lab in St. Paul.
