GRAND FORKS — North Dakota guard Paul Bruns, the 2021-22 Summit League Freshman of the Year, has entered his name into the NCAA transfer portal.
The Fighting Hawks are now primed to lose the league-recognized outstanding freshman for the second straight year. Tyree Ihenacho opted to depart for James Madison last year.
Bruns started 24 games for the Fighting Hawks this season, pacing all Summit League newcomers with 14.8 points per game. He was a plus defender as well, averaging 1 steal per game, which ranked 10th in the conference.
Bruns eclipsed UND’s freshman points record in the last game of the season against NDSU. He poured in 11 points vs. the Bison to finish his superb first season with 460 points, surpassing the previous record set by DeSean Allen-Eikens.
The Fighting Hawks are coming off a dismal 6-25 campaign, finishing last in the Summit League.
