FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo City Commissioner Tony Gehrig has announced his decision not to run for re-election in 2022, citing a goal to spend more time with his family and focus on the remaining four years of his military career. He didn’t rule out a future run.
“In four years I’m going to be in a different place than I am today and I am in a different place today than I was four years ago. I think every elected person has that calculus that they take and say okay where am I at, do I want to invest my time here or there, what’s my priority today versus yesterday or in the future? It was not an easy decision. I will truly miss it.”
He said it has been an honor to serve Fargo and that he intends to “continue fighting to reframe governmental efforts in terms of needs versus wants.”
Gehrig has served on the commission for the last seven years and is the liaison to the city’s facilities management, public library, and fire department, among others.
