TOWER CITY, ND – Maple River fought valiantly, but Northern Cass pulled away late to win 73-45 in Class B girls’ basketball action on Tuesday night. The Jaguars flustered Maple River into a staggering amount of turnovers and used their distinct size advantage to outrebound the Raiders by a significant margin.
The Jaguars led at the half 32-24 despite shooting just 15% from the field. Maple River then went on an 8-2 to cut the deficit to 34-32 midway through the third quarter. However, Halle Crockett later drained two key three-pointers to give the Jaguars some breathing room and they never looked back.
Forward Emma Lucas led Northern Cass with 17 points and 21 rebounds. Josie Jensen added 16 points off the bench, and Crockett also poured in 16 after being held scoreless in the first half.
Maple River was led by guard Chloe Wetch with 11 points; Adyson Hannig tallied nine points.
The Jaguars (11-4, 5-1 Region 1) will next host Richland this Friday.
The Raiders (3-11, 2-6 Region 1) will welcome Hankinson to town, also on Friday.
