BISMARCK, N.D. (KFGO) – North Dakota Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says he will not seek reelection in 2022.
The Republican is the longest-serving attorney general in state history.
Stenehjem, who is 68 years old, said he plans to retire from the post. He first took office in 2001 and has held the office for six terms.
His career in North Dakota politics has spanned over four decades, starting with his election to the House in 1976. He ran for governor in 2016, but lost in the GOP primary to Doug Burgum, who went on to become governor.
Among those considering a run for Attorney General are East Central District Judge Wade Webb of Fargo and former US Attorney Drew Wrigley who served as Lt. Gov. under former Gov. Jack Dalrymple.
