MINNETRISTA, Minn – Minnesota Vikings defensive end Everson Griffen is confirming that he has bipolar disorder.
Griffen said on Instagram Friday, “It’s true I am bipolar, I will embrace it and I will be an advocate for mental health. I [have] been running from it a long time. I’m not ashamed of it anymore.” He said it started when his mother died.
Last week Griffen posted a video holding gun and saying people were trying to kill him. He told police dispatchers he fired a gun, but no one was wounded, and no intruder was found. He refused to come out of his home for more than 11 hours before the situation ended peacefully.
Griffen was later admitted to a mental health facility and placed on the non-football illness list.
