(Eagan, MN) — Minnesota Vikings tight end Irv Smith will miss the beginning of the regular season. The third-year Vikings tight end is expected to have knee surgery this week to repair a meniscus injury. Smith was projected to be the first-string tight end in 2021 after sitting behind Kyle Rudolph the last two years.
The Vikings did not announce a timetable for Smith’s return. Minnesota also got a head-start on their roster cut down this weekend, releasing running back Ito Smith, center Cohl Cabral, and defensive tackle Zeandae Johnson.
