GRAND FORKS, N.D. – University of North Dakota Director of Athletics Bill Chaves announced on Thursday that Krystal Sunderman is leaving her position as the head women’s golf coach for the Fighting Hawks. Sunderman has been part of the women’s golf program since being named head coach in 2018 and will be stepping down immediately.
“We are grateful for Kristyl’s time here at the University of North Dakota and her work done with the women’s golf program,” said Associate Athletic Director of Operations and women’s golf sport supervisor Erik Martinson. “She was a great steward of the game and mentor to our student-athletes. We wish her all the best in the future.”
Despite battling a global pandemic during her second season, Sunderman helped the Fighting Hawks grow on the course during each of her years. UND climbed to as high as second during the 2021 Summit League Championships before finishing fifth, the highest since joining the conference.
Off the course, Sunderman had a pair of student-athletes earn Summit League All-Academic Team honors, two straight NCAA public recognition awards for ranking among the top-10 percent in APR, 12 selections to the Summit League Academic Honor Roll and six Summit League Commissioner’s Academic List honorees.
A national search for her replacement will begin immediately.
