ST. PAUL – Governor Tim Walz is proclaiming June 19th, 2021 as Juneteenth Freedom Day in Minnesota.
The order comes after President Biden signed a law recognizing today (Saturday) as the new federal holiday – Juneteenth National Independence Day.
Walz said, “Juneteenth is an important opportunity for all communities across our state and nation to celebrate freedom, honor African-Americans and their history, and commit to growing from the tragedies of the past.”
June 19th, 1865 is the date known as the official end to slavery in the U-S.
