MENTOR, Minn. (KFGO) – Firefighters are making progress in containing the massive Oxcart fire in Polk County, the largest wildfire so far this spring in the state.
Leanne Langeberg, with the Minnesota Interagency Fire Center, says the wildfire, which started Monday afternoon was “human-caused” but no further information has been released.
Langeberg says a more accurate aerial survey indicates about 12,900 acres of grassland have burned.
Red Flag warnings are creating critical fire weather Thursday with strong winds and low relative humidity. Mop-up efforts along with patrol and monitoring the fire perimeter will continue.
Engines, aircraft, and equipment will be working near Mentor, along U.S. Highway 2, and drivers are advised to use caution when traveling in the area.
