FARGO, N.D. (KFGO) – A car collided with a train at a crossing in downtown Fargo. It happened around 10:20 p.m. Sunday in the 500 block of Roberts Street. Police found a car damaged and abandoned, as the driver and a passenger had fled the scene.
It doesn’t appear there were any serious injuries although police have not found the man and woman. Police Sgt. Nate Nieman tells KFGO News both the car and train were traveling at slow speed when the collision happened.
Nieman says surveillance video from a nearby business showed the car was traveling south on Roberts Street when the crossing stop arm came down and the driver then attempted to get around the signal arm. The impact went off the sight of the camera at that point but the video does show spinning lights of the car as it was struck by the train.
Nieman said initially there was an indication the two in the car may have been connected to a disturbance at the nearby Empire Tavern but he says an investigation determined that was not the case.
