In the second Girls’ Class B State Tournament game of the day, the Wilton-Wing Miners handed the previously undefeated Kenmare Honkers their first loss of the season and sending them to the consolation bracket of the tournament. With this win, Wilton-Wing has booked a date in the semifinals against the Grafton Spoilers, the No. 2 seed in the tournament, and last year’s state runners-up.

In Wilton-Wing’s first state tournament appearance as a co-op, they were led in scoring, rebounds, and also in spirit by sophomore Hailey Quam. Quam matched a tournament-high set by Grafton’s Julia Dusek by scoring 19 points. Quam’s 9 rebounds were also critical in securing the team’s first-ever state tournament victory. A trio of Miners, Kiara Johnson, Jordan Tooke, and Kalyssa Schock also aided the winning effort with 5 points apiece. Wilton-Wing is now 21-2 on the season and will play next tomorrow at 6:30 against the no.2 Grafton Spoilers.
The Honkers may have lost that game, but they never just gave up. At halftime, Kenmare found themselves down by a score of 25-15 and without a point in the last 7 minutes of play. But, a quick 4-0 run to begin the third quarter gave them the spark they needed to fight back and have winning chances right up until the final buzzer. The Honkers were led in scoring by Brenna Stroklund with 17 points and had 9 players in the scoring column in a valiant team effort. the Kenmare Honkers are now 24-1 and will begin their journey through the consolation bracket tomorrow at noon against Glenburn.
