WARREN, Minn. (KFGO) – When the annual movie season kicks off this weekend at the Sky-Vu Drive-In in Warren, Minn., movie-goers may notice a few changes. Sky-Vu owner Steve Novak says because of COVID-19 concerns, some employees will wear masks, the snack bar menu and capacity will be limited and customers will be encouraged not to move around unless necessary.
“If they want to sit outside in lawn chairs, they’ll pretty much have to sit by their vehicles. We’ve got seven picnic tables. If somebody does sit at them, of course we’re going to go out and sanitize them for the next person.”
“We will have a limited menu at the concession stand” Novak said. “Everybody will be wearing gloves and some of the employees will be wearing masks. We will probably only allow four people at a time at the concession stand.”
Novak says because movie release dates are being delayed significantly, it could be a challenging season for drive-in theaters.
“Let me tell you, it’s going to be a tough year this year. ‘Minions’ was supposed to be a blockbuster this year. We had it scheduled for six weeks. That may be tough to get. ‘Top Gun’ is another one. Hopefully, we’ll be able to get that.”
“Sonic the Hedgehog” will be the first movie of the season at the Sky-Vu. The show starts at around 8:30 p.m. Friday.
