Chris Klieman sits down with Tim Fitzgerald and describes his journey to Kansas State.
Klieman (20:15 mark) explains why he left Northern Iowa as the defensive coordinator and came to North Dakota State University as a defensive backs coach in 2011, alongside his relationship with Craig Bohl and becoming the head coach at NDSU in 2014.
They also discuss NDSU’s 24-21 win over K-State in 2013 (26:45 mark) and why chicken noodle soup helped the Bison in the hot conditions.
In Part 2 of the PowerChat, Fitzgerald details the relationship between K-State athletic director Gene Taylor and Klieman.
Klieman recaps (7:20 mark) when Taylor called and hired him as the next football coach for the Wildcats and how the next few days led up to the introductory press conference in Manhattan, Kansas, while prepping for South Dakota State in the FCS playoffs.
Finally, Klieman goes over the hiring process (13:45 mark) of his assistant coaches and why Courtney Messingham, Joe Klanderman, Conor Riley, Jason Ray and Hank Jacobs as the right fit to follow him to K-State from NDSU.
